Scams – What to look out for during the Covid-19 Pandemic

At Sound Tax & Accounting, we know firsthand that there is never a shortage of opportunists, con-artists and scammers that prey on our community’s most vulnerable citizens during normal times. During this pandemic, we have seen a shocking increase in shady activity, from the massive spreading of misinformation to grifters attempting to extort people for their hard-earned money. From January 01 to April 21, 2020 alone, the Federal Trade Commission has tracked over 23,000 reports of fraud and identity theft with nearly $18M in losses.  

We wanted to write a quick post, not to scare you or to instill any sort of fear or distrust in your fellow community members, but to provide you with tools to avoid being taken advantage of. We hope it is helpful.
